Sew a Patina Blouse Class (Advanced Beginners and up)

Sew a Patina Blouse Class (Advanced Beginners and up)

Friday Pattern Company’s Patina Blouse is a perfect introduction to blouse-making for confident beginners, or an opportunity to refine skills with tips and tricks for intermediate sewists. It features a flat collar with two neckline depth options, subtly gathered sleeves for soft structure, and the option for hemmed short sleeves or long sleeves with a cuff. Don’t be surprised if it becomes a wardrobe staple – you’ll want to make the Patina over and over again!

This is a four-session class. Please ensure you can attend all four sessions.

As prerequisites to take this class, you should know how to operate a sewing machine, including:

  • how to wind a bobbin
  • how to thread a sewing machine
  • how to backstitch

Essentially, if you have completed a couple small projects, are looking to ease back into sewing, or have taken a “Learn to Sew” class at Fabrications, this class is for you!

You will learn how to:

  • plan a garment sewing project, take your measurements, and choose pattern size
  • read and follow a sewing pattern
  • sew and finish bust darts
  • sew a flat collar
  • sew a double yoke with the “burrito method”
  • sew buttonholes and buttons with a sewing machine
  • sew a sleeve cuff (if you choose the long sleeve version)

You will need:

  • tracing paper
  • Medium weight, woven fabric – consider linens, cotton blends, voile, viscose, lightweight twill, crumple cottons, or chambray
    • For 45” wide fabric, 1.8m to 3m depending on size and view
    • For 54 to 60”” wide fabric, 1.6m to 2.5m depending on size and view
    • Exact fabric requirements can be found here. (Note: the pattern itself is included in the class fee, you do not have to purchase it)
  • Matching thread
  • 0.75m light- to mid-weight interfacing, woven or non-woven

We will provide:

  • a copy of the pattern
  • a sewing machine for in-class use
  • sewing tools for in-class use

A list of our class policies can be found here.

Minimum enrolment is 3, maximum is 5.
